WHO WE ARE

Power Alley (which includes Power Alley Baseball, Power Alley Academy, and Power Alley Fastpitch divisions) is a non-profit 501(c)3 baseball travel program composed of 9-under to 14-under teams, and is open to any child in Loveland and Northern Colorado.  It is a program born out of the desire to create highly competitive teams where players can hone their skills against other players of similar skill levels.  We believe “Iron Sharpens Iron.”  Our program stresses the quality of play not the quantity of teams or players.  We strive to give those who participate a very high quality baseball experience through an experienced staff and a sound philosophy.

Power Alley believes that competitive youth baseball is a tool for players to not only learn the skills necessary to eventually compete at the high school and collegiate level, but also to instill the values, traditions, and passion for the game.   Our program believes in “trusting the process”: that repetition, discipline and trust will pay off in meeting the long-term goals of developing better baseball players, better athletes, and better young men.  As competitive as youth baseball can get, we do not believe in sacrificing long-term goals for a win.  We believe in creating a competitive atmosphere where kids can feel safe to be courageous and make mistakes so that they can learn (failure is not the opposite of success, it is a vital component of it).

We encourage all players who feel they may have the skill level to compete (at least) at a AA level to tryout!  If you are unsure where your player may fit (what his skill level is), please register for the Power Alley Baseball (competitive program) tryout where he or she will be evaluated. 

 

AGE DIVISIONS

Please, note the age your child will be on May 1, 2025.  That is the age level at which he will compete unless he or she qualifies for a grade exemption (see below for guidelines on exemptions).

 

GRADE EXEMPTIONS

Your child cannot be older than his age group prior to May 1st, 2025 unless a GRADE EXCEPTION IS ALLOWED:

9u division -  Players turning 10 on or before April 30 of 2025 are not eligible for 9u UNLESS the player is in 3rd Grade. Players turning 11 before August 1 are ineligible to play no matter what grade they are in.
 10u division -  Players turning 11 on or before April 30 of 2025 are not eligible for 10u UNLESS the player is in 4th Grade. Players turning 12 before August 1 are ineligible to play no matter what grade they are in.
11u division -  Players turning 12 on or before April 30 of 2025 are not eligible for 11u UNLESS the player is in 5th Grade. Players turning 13 before August 1 are ineligible to play no matter what grade they are in.
12u division -  Players turning 13 on or before April 30 of 2025 are not eligible for 12u UNLESS the player is in 6th Grade.  Players turning 14 before August 1 are ineligible to play no matter what grade they are in.
13u division -  Players turning 14 on or before April 30 of 2025 are not eligible for 13u UNLESS the player is in 7th Grade.  Players turning 15 before August 1 are ineligible to play no matter what grade they are in.
14u division -  Players turning 15 on or before April 30 of 2025 are not eligible for 14u UNLESS the player is in 8th Grade.  Players turning 16 before August 1 are ineligible to play no matter what grade they are in.

 

PRE-TRYOUT INFORMATIONAL MEETING

We want you to be as informed as possible before registering your child, so we will have a Pre-Tryout Meeting for parents, guardians, and players interested on July 17th at 6:30 pm at Centennial Baseball Complex (First & Taft) in Loveland.  We will meet at the pavilion in the middle of the complex (centrally located in the midst of all the fields).  We will talk a little bit about who we are, what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you and your player.  You will be able to meet and ask questions of our coaches and board members.

 

COMMITMENT FEE

When registering for tryouts, you will be required to pay a $100 commitment fee per player (not per team or per division choice).  This fee will go toward your player's total fees in the event the he or she is selected for a Power Alley team (Competitive or Academy).  In the event your player IS NOT selected for a team in Power Alley Baseball or Power Alley Academy, your $100 will be completely refunded to you.

Please, note: if your player is selected for a team and your decline the invitation to play for the selecting Power Alley team, you will NOT receive any refund.  We assume that if you are trying out with us, you want to play here.  In full transparency, this is a fee to prevent parents "shopping around" for teams, a practice we see as highly disruptive to the families of players trying out, the players themselves waiting to see if they made a team, and the program in general. 

 

GENERAL COSTS

Player Season cost varies from team to team based on the competitive level at which they play, the number of tournaments, and league play.  In the past, fees for our competitive program (Power Alley Baseball, 9u-14u, AA to Majors) run around $1,500.  This includes winter workouts as well as regular season play (tournaments and possibly league for some teams), uniforms, practice facilities, some special program events and awards, and administrative costs.  Our coaches are NOT paid.

Power Alley Academy is an intermediate level (A) program for kids who are no longer challenged by rec ball but are not yet ready to jump into the higher-level competitive program.  Last year was the first year for Power Alley Academy, but the intermediate program was a part of the Loveland Baseball Association for many years before it came under the Power Alley umbrella.   The cost per player for the 2024 season was about $750 per player.  This included league play, 3-4 tournaments,  spring/summer practice facilities (no winter workouts), uniform package, some special events and awards and administrative fees. 

We anticipate the player season fees to be slightly higher for the 2025 season due to increase in field fees at Centennial by the City of Loveland.  We will have a more concrete idea of what the budgets will look like as we get closer to tryouts.

 

PRACTICES

Competitive teams will generally begin practices together the first weekend after school winter break.  This means about 8 weeks of indoor practices, followed by outdoor practices at Centennial Baseball Complex. 

Winter workouts will generally by once a week, though some teams may opt for an additional session.  Outdoor practices are twice a week.

We absolutely support multi-sport athletes!  If your child plays other sports or is involved in other activities that he or she is passionate about, we encourage that and just ask you to keep coaches informed about practices they may miss.  Once in season, mid-March, it will be important to make sure a coach's expectation of a player concerning attendance is understood.  While allowances are always made, because "life", our competitive coaches will most always expect the sport in season (baseball) to take precedence.  

 

TOURNAMENTS, LEAGUE

The decision for a team to be either tournament-only or tournament plus league is ultimately up to the team's Head Coach.  He will make that decision based on the team's overall skill level as well as short-term and long-term goals.

Beginning in late March to early April, our teams generally will play tournaments in Northern Colorado and the Denver Metro region, occasionally spreading out west to Boulder and out east to Eaton.  Most teams will also opt for at least one overnight tournament, either in state (Steamboat Springs and other Mountain destinations, Grand Junction, Colorado Springs to name a few possibilities) or out of state (Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, Arizona, to name a few past destinations).  How far your team will travel is usually determined by skill level and the desire to create a unique and memorable experience for the kids (and families!). 

The 12u teams always have an open bid to play in Cooperstown, NY and will be going again in the 2025 season.  That tournament will NOT be included in player fees that Power Alley initially bills.  However, fundraising for that will happen ALL season once the team is formed, and is fully supported by Power Alley.

Families can expect the number of tournaments that their team plays to vary by age, participation in league play, skill level, and team goals.  Younger teams may play 6-7 tournaments, older teams may play as many as 13-14.   Teams opting for league play, may reduce their number of tournaments.   Whatever the case, parent input will always be sought when putting together a schedule, but the ultimate decision lies with the Head Coach, based on his assessment of the team's needs and goals.

PARENT REQUIREMENTS

Parents whose children are a part of Power Alley (both competitive and Academy) are required to:
- Attend the Parent Meeting after teams are formed
-Complete "The Role of Parents" module (in person if new to the program and every other year thereafter; or, via the online module for returning parents every other year).
-Abide by the Parent Standards of Conduct

 

PLAYER REQUIREMENTS:

-Understand and abide by the program's Core Covenants (Trust, Attitude, Effort), which are taught in a team setting as well as a program setting.

-Abide by the Player Code of Conduct
-Attend the "Players & Coaches Workshop" every other year.
-Participate with their teammates in at least one PowerUp! project (community service) each season.  
-be coachable, respectful (to everyone, always), on time and prepared for practices, games, and special events.
